Inspired by evening walks along Balmoral Beach, Night Walk draws on the quiet intensity of Sydney’s coastline after dark, when the sea becomes a brooding indigo expanse and the landscape glows with the last traces of light.
There is a quiet intimacy to an evening walk. The path may be familiar, yet the landscape is experienced differently. The sea is heard before it is seen, the air hangs heavy with salt, and the familiar pathways and landforms are navigated as much by memory as by sight.
This work is less a depiction of place than a meditation on the experience of being somewhere deeply familiar after dark. The coastline is transformed, not because it has changed, but because our perception of it has.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas with oil pastel
Size: 121cm (W) x 91cm (H)
Hanging: unframed (edges finished), ready to hang with D-rings and wire
Signed: on front and back
