The works in this series (Rockpool I, II and III) are inspired by the wintry and earthy tones of Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula—a place defined by its dramatic contrasts. The back beach roars with wild energy, while the bay is unassuming and perfectly still. The colour palatte is so different in Sorrento - a world away from the bright hues of Sydney. Here on the back beach the colours are more subdued, ephemeral - a mix of sea green, green grey, olive green, soft earthy neutrals, blue grey and cool cerulean blue. The landscape is different too, rugged and unrelenting, with masses of tea trees and wild shrubs. I love this part of the world. I wanted to capture in these works the natural beauty of the ocean rockpools and their shifting colours.
