Halcyon days VI

$200.00

Original signed (on back) artwork.

Acrylic on canvas with oil pastel, framed ready to hang.

Purchase on its own or with others in the Halcyon days series.

This series of small abstract works takes its name from the Greek myth of Alcyone. Alcyone was so overcome with grief after her husband drowned in a storm that she threw herself into the sea. To honor their love, the Greek gods transformed them into birds. Alcyone became a halcyon bird (kingfisher) and each year, her father, the god of the winds, calmed the seas for a rare period - known as the ‘halcyon days’ - so she could safely build her nest and care for her young. In this series, that sense of calm is expressed through a warm luminous palate, layered textures, and playful fragments that feel like moments of quiet celebration. The works are small but vibrant. There is a nest like form in one of the works. Like the myth itself, these works balance tenderness with resilience, offering a reminder of beauty and quiet strength even after the storm.
