Frida and Diego

$500.00

Set of 2 original signed artworks.

Acrylic on canvas, framed ready to hang.

Each work is 31cm (L) x 41cm (H)

These works are part of a series which explores the idea that we’re ’better together’. We each have our own unique traits and we can all stand on our own - but as a pair, matched with someone or something different from us, we have the capacity to create something even more powerful and more beautiful.

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera met when Kahlo was in art school. They married in 1929. She was 22, he was 42. She nicknamed him ‘frog toad’. Diego was obsessed with his craft (mural painting) and prized it above all else, and he encouraged Frida to do the same. Their relationship was tumultuous, characterized by a mixture of mutual creative reverence and extramarital affairs. They divorced in 1940, only to remarry in 1941. Frida had an unstoppable spirit and vitality for living but her art told a different story, one of torment and anguish. Whether they were better together is a mystery but they certainly spent a good part of their life together.
